Justice Matters: Our Interdependent Hemisphere

Professor Nick Uliano leads an ECG 100 course examining the hemisphere justice issues of migration and human rights. Students are asked to think about the political, social, economic, and cultural ties that exist between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.  Through texts, readings, films, discussions, and a service project, students become aware of the issues that are involved and gain a greater degree of connectedness to their Spanish-speaking neighbors in the South. The syllabus reads: “This course makes students increasingly prepared to see solidarity, reciprocity, and mutual engagement as social justices. Through reading, writing, classroom discussion, and co-curricular activities, students will come to a greater understanding of the formal and informal social structures that help construct their identities.
