The works of the MSC’s Stella Maris Province encompass 25 programs and institutions in the United States, Australia, Swaziland, and the Philippines. In the United States the MSCs are concentrated in six states: Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington. In Colorado you’ll find the Mother Cabrini Shrine. Located in Golden, near Denver, the shrine sits on the east slope of Lookout Mountain. Mother Cabrini discovered the beautful site as she travelled from Denver to tend to the Italian workers and their families in the Clear Creek, Argentine, and South Park mining districts. In 1910 Mother Cabrini purchased the land as a summer camp for the young women who lived at the Queen of Heaven Orphanage in Denver, CO. No reliable source of water was known to exist on the property at that time and the Sisters complained to Mother Cabrini that they were dying of thirst. She told them, “Lift that rock over there and start to dig. You will find water fresh enough to drink and clean enough to wash.” The spring, which is housed in an 8,000 gallon tank, has never stopped running. The Shrine website has a lovely, brief video on the Mother Cabrini Shrine.
