Engagements with the Common Good (ECG 100): People Who Make History

In Dr. Courtney Smith’s course, ECG 100: People Who Make History, first year students examine two very important historical figures:  Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson.  Students examine how Hamilton and Jefferson disagreed on the way to interpret the constitution and on the issue of state and federal powers.  Students are asked to consider the significance of those issues in present day political discourse and policy making.  The course is part of the Engagements with the Common Good series: a  four-year, four-course sequence that raises awareness of social problems, explores their root causes, involves students hands-on in social justice issues, and connects the theory and practice of social justice to each student’s major.
