The Course Numbering System

The first explanation of the course numbering system is found in the 1960-61 catalogue which reads, “All courses of instruction numbered from 101 to 199 are open to freshmen. All courses  numbered from 201 to 299 are open to sophomores. Courses numbered from 301 to 399 are offered to juniors. Senior courses are numbered from 401 to 499.  Odd numbers indicate first semester courses; even numbers, second semester courses.” A sample of course offerings for English gives the course number and a glimpse at the course content.
