Cabrini Immigrant Services, New York, NY

Summer 2012 has proved to be one of the busiest on record for Cabrini Immigrant Services of New York City (CIS-NYC). Joy Haas, the Education Coordinator, responded to the demand for ongoing English classes by putting together an 8-week program for all English literacy levels. With the generous donation of classroom space from neighbor, Immigrant Social Services, the classes have been able to accommodate 90 students.  In addition to English classes,   CIS-NYC has responded to the increased number of clients applying for Naturalization by offering two 8-week Citizenship Preparation Classes – one in English and one in Spanish.   Pedro Pizarro Jr. has expanded his tri-lingual (English, Spanish, Chinese) computer classes, to offer two sessions every Friday: Beginner in the morning and Intermediate in the afternoon. Pedro has a growing following and the center is running out of computers and space!
